Chema Andres: An in-depth look at Brighton’s new midfielder and how he can fill the void left by Carlos Baleba

Introduction and Context
Brighton announced the deadline-day signing of Chema Andrés to much fanfare. After Carlos Baleba’s departure, the Albion’s midfield was left stretched thin, and Yasin Ayari’s recent injury and uncertainty regarding his contract renewal meant there was feasibly a world in which Brighton were left with only two central midfielders at the club.
Consequently, the Seagulls acted quickly to bring in a Real Madrid youth product with European experience under his belt with Sebastian Hoeneß at Stuttgart, removing Madrid’s remaining rights, including the buyback clause, in the process.
