About
By Charlie Parker-Turner, Founder/Editor
Welcome to The Brighton Base. Your new home of Brighton & Hove Albion coverage.
In 2025, this site was launched with a simple aim: to become a meaningful part of Brighton’s media landscape by providing content that fans actually want to read.
As a lifelong Seagulls supporter, I know that too often, coverage around the club has felt traditional, selective and reactive.
That has sufficed, but times have changed, and now it’s about providing Brighton’s ever-growing fanbase with what they want and deserve.
My background as a senior sports writer for the Daily Express and Daily Mirror gave me a clear insight into how modern media operates. Storytelling, being on the pulse of the game, chasing exclusives – it was an invaluable time in my career, but it also highlighted how outlets are losing sight of their audience.
That disconnect between writer and reader was a fundamental reason why The Brighton Base was developed.
Journalists should understand what their readership truly wants to sit down and read. They should be aware of the conversations being had on the concourse at half-time and of the discussions in pubs up and down the Sussex coast.
Similarly, an audience should be able to help guide the coverage and drive the conversations that matter most. Media doesn’t have to be a one-way street. In fact, it shouldn’t be. Writers and readers should be working in harmony.
Is that happening at present? I don’t think so. That’s what we’re trying to change.
I know that supporters don’t just want surface-level reporting. They want context, knowledge and perspective – whether that’s understanding a tactical approach or hearing from those past and present.
I’ve assembled a brilliant team of writers who care deeply about the club and are capable of meeting the demands of Brighton supporters, and I genuinely believe that what we’re building is different to anything else currently available.
For £50 a year, or £5 per month, The Brighton Base will deliver extensive, diverse coverage of Brighton & Hove Albion all in one place and unburdened by intrusive advertising.
Seagulls supporters know that they deserve more. This is the more.
