Paul Barber explains Brighton’s decision to let Danny Welbeck join Chelsea as key contract detail emerges

The England international left the Seagulls earlier this month for an undisclosed fee, penning a two-year deal at Stamford Bridge to form part of their new, veteran core with Jordan Henderson.

Welbeck’s departure leaves Brighton with inexperienced options at striker. Fabian Hurzeler has been insistent that Georginio Rutter and Charalampos Kostoulas are among his striker options, despite both generally being more effective when deployed deeper.
