Brighton’s James Milner has announced that he has retired from professional football.
The 40-year-old made 22 appearances in all competitions for the Seagulls last season, playing a pivotal role in turning his side’s fortunes around after a dismal winter period.
Milner won the Premier League twice during his 24-year stay in the English top-flight, lifting the trophy twice with Manchester City and once with Liverpool. He has also won two FA Cups, two Community Shields and the Champions League.
The veteran also broke the record for the most Premier League appearances during the 2025/26 campaign, eclipsing Gareth Barry’s record of 653 during Brighton’s win over Brentford in February.
