Brighton and Chelsea have agreed a deal for Danny Welbeck.

The Blues are looking to add more experience to their squad at the request of new manager Xabi Alonso. After a failed move for Sunderland’s Granit Xhaka, they set their sights on the former Arsenal and Manchester United forward, as well as Brentford’s Jordan Henderson.

The Englishman was a crucial part of Fabian Hurzeler’s side last season, scoring 13 league goals, including three against Chelsea, as the Seagulls secured an eighth-place finish and a second European qualification.

Along the way, the 35-year-old became Brighton’s all-time Premier League top-scorer, overtaking Pascal Gross and Glenn Murray.
