Brighton are reportedly showing an interest in signing Takehiro Tomiyasu, who is without a club after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with Arsenal over the summer.

The defender has endured a torrid time with injuries over the past few years, and a fresh long-term knee injury proved to be the final nail in the coffin for the Japan international’s career at the Emirates Stadium.

Tomiyasu was limited to just six minutes of football last season as a result of his recurring problems, prompting Arsenal into a tough decision to release the former Bologna star.

The 26-year-old is still recovering from his knee injury and has hopes of returning to a top European league once back to full fitness – and there appears to be every chance that the versatile defender remains in the Premier League.
