Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler believes that Matt O’Riley can hit the ground running at the Amex Stadium upon his return to the club.

The midfielder was recalled early from his season-long loan spell with Marseille on deadline day, having made 25 appearances in all competitions for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

But with several stars, including Brajan Gruda and Tommy Watson, departing this window on loan, Brighton have decided to bring O’Riley back to the club and reintegrate him into their squad for the second half of the campaign.

The ex-Celtic star made two Premier League appearances for the Seagulls before heading to Ligue 1, opening his account for the campaign from the penalty spot in Brighton’s 1-1 draw with Fulham on the opening weekend of the season.
