Middlesbrough are reportedly on the cusp of hijacking Birmingham City’s move for Jeremy Sarmiento.
Earlier this week, the Brighton forward was expected to join the growing list of stars to have headed to St Andrew’s over the past 12 months, including Ibrahim Osman and James Beadle. However, that deal now appears to be off.
The Ecuador international is currently out on loan with Serie A side Cremonese, but his spell in Italy has proven tricky. Sarmiento has made just seven appearances for the club in all competitions, failing to start a single match.
All parties have therefore agreed to terminate the season-long loan deal early as a result, and Sarmiento now looks Middlesbrough-bound.
