Tottenham are reportedly set to push to sign Brighton star Jan Paul van Hecke in the January transfer window, with his uncertain contract situation providing Thomas Frank’s side with encouragement in their pursuit.

The defender was heavily linked with a move away from the Amex Stadium over the summer, with Newcastle and Spurs said to have been among his admirers. However, despite failing to tie Van Hecke down to a new contract, Brighton managed to retain the services of the centre-back.

The Netherland international’s current deal with the Seagulls expires in 2027 and he is said to be unwilling to extend his stay though as he is hoping to join a club who are playing Champions League football consistently instead.
