Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke has broken his silence on the transfer rumours which surrounded him over the summer, outlining his ‘ideal situation’ after remaining at the Amex for another season. The Dutchman has, so far, played every single minute of the new Premier League campaign, demonstrating his continued importance within the Albion set-up.

While the Seagulls will be more than pleased to see their star defender stay on the south coast, they will also be aware that the Dutchman’s contract is set to expire in 2027. Previous reports from Voetbal International claimed that Brighton were prepared to make Van Hecke their highest-ever paid player if he penned a new deal, however, the centre-back turned down the side’s proposal amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.
