Diego Coppola has revealed that he is fearful that his lack of game time with Brighton will cost him his chance to feature at this summer’s World Cup.

The defender made his first Premier League start of the season over the weekend in the Seagulls’ 0-0 draw against Sunderland, stepping in due to Lewis Dunk’s suspension and Jan Paul van Hecke falling ill in the days prior.

The centre-back took his opportunity well with an impressive display, but Fabian Hurzeler wasted no time in reaffirming in his post-match interview that Dunk and Van Hecke remain his first-choice defensive partnership, which will therefore see Coppola drop back to the bench.
