Brighton have announced the signing of defender Costinha from Olympiacos.

The Seagulls identified the right-back as a key transfer target early last month, leaning on their pre-existing relationship with Olympiacos to agree a deal before the summer transfer window opened today (Monday).

Costinha has penned a five-year contract with Brighton, with the 26-year-old viewed as a key acquisition as Fabian Hurzeler’s side prepare to compete on the European stage as well as domestically next season.

Interest in the Portuguese full-back dates back to last summer, with Hurzeler alluding to that long-standing admiration.
