Brighton have announced the signing of striker Emily Murphy from second-tier Newcastle United.

Newcastle have confirmed they received a club-record fee from the deal, with Murphy having just one year left on her contract with the Magpies before opting to head south.

The 23-year-old signed her first professional contract for Newcastle in January 2025, and scored eight goals in 31 appearances for the Women’s Super League 2 side.

Making a move to the English top-flight will be a significant step up for the striker, with the WSL looking an increasingly competitive league next season – particularly considering the signings made by several rivals already this summer.
