Jan Paul van Hecke’s late header spared Fabian Hurzeler’s blushes as Brighton snatched a late point away to Wolves. The Seagulls had struggled throughout the contest, but a glancing header from the Dutch defender ensured that his side did not head home from Molineux empty handed.
Wolves took the lead in the 21st minute when Marshall Munetsi’s strike ricocheted off of the crossbar, onto Bart Verbruggen and into the back of the net after he was teed up by a poor defensive header from Danny Welbeck.
Brighton struggled to respond and despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession, struggled to threaten Sam Johnstone. That was until Van Hecke’s header nestled into the bottom corner following a whipped delivery from Maxim De Cuyper.
The Seagulls will certainly be disappointed with their performance, though there is certainly a case to be made that they were fortunate to go home with a point.
