Brighton signing once shut down 'Zlatan' comparisons following baffling transfer admission

Brighton thought they had struck gold with their signing in 2015, but not everything went to plan.

Ten years to the day, Finland’s Vahid Hambo was unveiled to the Brighton fans holding up the iconic blue and white strip. In bizarre fashion, the striker was swift to admit he had little idea about the shirts’ history however. This is the short but sweet story of the Seagulls’ Vahid Hambo, and not the next Zlatan, as he wanted everyone to understand. 

In 2015, Hambo arrived with a bold statement, telling The Argus: “It’s quite funny that people compare me to Zlatan because we’re both tall and strikers, but I don’t compare myself to him or anyone else.”

Zlatan (Ibrahimovic) was comfortably one of the world’s best strikers when the Finn arrived on the south coast in 2015, so despite the dismissal, even his vague correlation had the Brighton fans excited. Who was this confident, towering striker they had their hands on?
