Brighton were denied the chance to kick off the new season with all three points after a last-gasp equaliser from Rodrigo Muniz rescued a point for Marco Silva’s Fulham.
While it was a promising display from the Seagulls, second-half substitute Muniz provided the sucker punch on the south coast with a superb volley in the sixth minute of additional time.
Brighton’s Georginio Rutter had earned his side a penalty early in the second half, as a driving run teased Fulham’s Sander Berge into a clumsy challenge. With Albion’s spot-kick specialist Joao Pedro departing the south coast for Chelsea this summer, it was midfielder Matt O’Riley who stepped up to fire his strike past Bernd Leno.
