Brighton came from behind to secure their first three points of the Premier League season, battling to a 2-1 victory over Manchester City. A quadruple substitution proved to be the difference for the Seagulls, with James Milner and Brajan Gruda coming off of the bench to turn the game on its head.
City dominated the first half, and after missing a series of half-chances prior, Erling Haaland poked his shot beyond Bart Verbruggen after 34 minutes. Pep Guardiola’s side then picked up where they left off in the second half, but a roll of the dice from Fabian Hurzeler sparked his side into life.
Milner equalised from the penalty spot in the 67th minute when Lewis Dunk’s shot was blocked by the outstretched arm of Matheus Nunes. The momentum then swung in the favour of Brighton, and they completed the turnaround thanks to Gruda in the 89th minute. After being released by Kaoru Mitoma, the German kept his cool to round James Trafford and slot into an empty net to send the Amex Stadium into a frenzy.
