Brighton’s recruitment model is all about signing young, unknown players on the cheap, giving them a platform to develop before selling them on for huge profits. So, signing a player on loan goes completely against the fundamentals of their strategy.
When the Seagulls do complete a loan deal, it’s either because the player can provide short-term success that is simply too good to turn down, or a ‘desperate times call for desperate measures’ situation.
With the summer transfer window drawing to a close, Brighton have recently been linked with loan moves for Manchester United duo Kobbie Mainoo and Antony - but would such a deal prove worthwhile?
