Brighton Women were caught out by a late corner-kick delivery in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at the Amex Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
While the Seagulls dominated proceedings and looked to extend their slim lead in front of the 3,137-strong crowd, they were ultimately left rueing their chances as Lynn Wilms’ delivery bypassed everyone on its way into the back of the net.
Brighton’s main threat in the first half came from set-pieces, with centre-back Gabby George reacting quickly to stab home after Caitlin Hayes’ initial header had been denied by Villa goalkeeper Akane Ōkuma.
The Seagulls were again thwarted by the Japan international after their opener in the 30th minute, with a powerful free-kick from Marisa Olislagers pushed away by Ōkuma at her near post.
