Brighton Under-21s were taught a harsh lesson by Liverpool on Saturday afternoon as the Reds thrashed the Seagulls 5-1 in Premier League 2.
A much-changed Albion side got off to the worst possible start when Liverpool full-back Isaac Mabaya breezed past Kofi Shaw before swinging in a low cross for Joshua Sonni-Lambie to put his side ahead within 70 seconds.
Things went from bad to worse for Brighton less than 10 minutes later, with Reds captain Michael Laffey firing in from eight yards following Will Wright’s cross.
Wright continued the hosts’ scintillating start by putting them three up in the 25th minute, shrugging off the challenge of Sebastian Ademola before curling a long-range effort into the far corner.
