Versatility is a manager’s dream. A player's ability to seamlessly slot into a number of different positions cannot be understated in squad building, and it’s certainly a trait which Brighton hold in high regard.

Jack Hinshelwood’s ability to play as a No. 10 as well as full-back; Pascal Gross alike. Diego Gomez’s ease in adapting to being deployed out wide. The list goes on, and it’s nothing new on the Sussex coast either.

Steven Alzate’s wing-back stints under Graham Potter spring to mind, and more unusual examples aren’t too difficult to come by either: in 2014, Greg Halford joined the Seagulls on loan from Nottingham Forest to provide cover at centre-back, but it wasn’t long before Sami Hyypia opted to throw him up top as a striker.
