Brighton have splashed over £100million and counting this summer. They are figures that could send your parents, or grandparents, who remember the time Brighton’s local community united to sign Bert Murray, into shock.
It’s 1970. A transitional period for the club, who had just seen their manager Freddie Goodwin depart for Birmingham City after finishing 5th in the Third Division.
The Albion had briefly become ‘The Dolphins’, with a new logo to accompany the nickname, and outrage amongst the fanbase had erupted when their all-white home shirt was released for the 1970/71 season, abandoning the iconic blue and white stripes.
