Brighton Under-21s were thrashed 6-0 by Cambridge United in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night after a bizarre Ben Barclay red card left the youngsters with an impossible task against their League One opposition.

It was a sloppy start from the Seagulls, who struggled to gain control and saw several passes go astray. That nearly cost them almost immediately from kick-off when Sean Keogh's clearance struck Tate Ferdinand in the face and trickled inches wide of the post.

After that early scare, Albion grew into the game, with Valentin Joseph and George Munday both testing Cambridge goalkeeper Gabe Breeze from distance.
