Brighton are in talks with Joel Veltman over a new contract, The Brighton Base can exclusively reveal.

The defender was named on the Seagulls’ Premier League released list earlier today (Wednesday), but it is understood that negotiations over a new contract are ongoing, which would see the Dutchman stay put on the Sussex coast for at least another season.

Veltman made 28 appearances for Brighton in all competitions last season, scoring once and registering one assist.

The 34-year-old has found himself below Mats Wieffer in the pecking order at right-back in recent campaigns under head coach Fabian Hurzeler, but his experience and reliability are viewed as a key asset at the Amex Stadium.
