Brighton have announced the signing of Lia Wälti from Juventus, with the 33-year-old bringing both experience and elegance to the south coast.
The defensive midfielder joins the Seagulls having played for a host of clubs, including Young Boys Frauen, Turbine Potsdam and Women’s Super League side Arsenal. During her seven-year spell with the Gunners, Wälti made her mark as one of the club’s finest midfielders.
The Switzerland international possesses a unique ability to wriggle out of tight spaces and retain possession under pressure, with Arsenal teammate Leah Williamson subsequently nicknaming her ‘snake hips’.
In her first interview with the club, Wälti explained that she hopes to bring these qualities, and more, to the pitch for the Albion.
