Brighton Women suffered a 3-2 defeat to Manchester City at the Joie Stadium on Sunday, despite fighting back from three goals down against the Women’s Super League champions.

The Seagulls made the hosts work until the end for their three points, but ultimately, City’s early attacking impetus proved decisive.

The Cityzens certainly started brightly in Manchester, with winger Lauren Hemp repeatedly causing problems for Brighton right-back Marit Auée, who was making her first league start of the season.

Hemp, 26, got beyond the Dutchwoman in the fifth minute and, possibly from an offside position, played the ball across goal for prolific striker Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw to volley home.
