Brighton Women suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Subway Players Cup on Wednesday evening.

The match-winning moment came nine minutes before half time at the Broadfield Stadium, with Olivia Holdt firing an across-goal strike into the far-side netting after the Spurs forward had been played through by Victoria Pelova.

The Spurs star had an earlier opportunity to put her name on the scoresheet as she rounded goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, but Pelova hesitated just long enough for the Brighton defence to clear away the danger.

Meanwhile, the Seagulls also looked lively in possession, with a delightful cross from Kiko Seike in the 12th minute giving Emily Murphy the chance to open her Albion account. The striker, however, guided her first-time effort inches wide of the right post.
