Brighton made a mockery of rivals Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon, sweeping them aside in an effortless 5-0 victory.

The Seagulls found themselves ahead after just four minutes when Jaydee Canvot redirected Pascal Gross’ teasing free-kick into the back of his own net.

Diego Gomez then wrote his name into the folklore of the rivalry two minutes later. The Paraguayan received the ball just inside the Palace half before turning and lofting a sensational strike over the head of Walter Benitez to send the Albion faithful into a frenzy.

Brighton made it 3-0 after 10 minutes, with Yasin Ayari slotting a neat strike into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area following a well-worked passing move down the right.
